Private Jet Prices

Lets get down to the real meat of the Private Jet Industry. Private Jet Charter Prices!
Private jet charter prices are determined by a number of factors. Many companies will give you an estimation by the hour, some by the distanced traveled while others will automatically take your first born. I am just kidding about the distanced traveled prices =)
Estimating a price by the hour is the standard method. This method however, does not always provide the quickest most accurate estimate.
The primary factors in determining the price of your private jet charter trip are:
Aircraft Age, Number of hours an aircraft is available for charter in a year, Aircraft Category, Length of Trip, Airport Fees, Fuel Surcharge fees, Carbon off-set fees, and Concierge services. To wrap it up, there is a lot of information and different inputs that can and will adjust the cost of chartering an aircraft.
Just like a movie theater airports age and become outdated. The one thing that will never change is the original manufacture date of an aircraft. This date will determine a lot about the price of an aircraft. The older the manufacture date the lower the price. Also just like a movie theater, you can update the appearance. The cost of interior refurbishment will obviously be passed along to the end user – you. So in summary the nicer the duds on the inside the higher the price for the ride.
Many aircraft charter companies will have a certain number of planes that they can charter out only a certain number of hours per year. This is due to scheduling, cleaning, safety and maintenance reports and a whole host of other restrictions. If the aircraft you want to charter only has a small amount of flight hours available, the price will ultimately be higher.
Aircraft category is an interesting input. Different aircraft are categorized just like cars. Sub-Compact, Compact, SUV ect. This is determined by the number of passengers. So if you want to cut some costs, cut the guest list.
This is the obvious factor when looking at Private Jet Prices. The length of trip. Many companies will require a two hour minimum for a trip while others will categorize by day. You can have a same day round trip, a weekend trip and a several day trip. The most common is the same day round trip. A weekend trip will require extra payment for overnight costs. Yes the plane needs a hotel room too and it is called a Hanger. The several day trip will be the most expensive because most likely the aircraft will not stay many days away from its base. This back and forth will result in double round trips.
Airport Fees start to add up also. Not only do they charge you per bag if you go on a commercial airliner but when you charter a private jet, you will have to add in Landing Fees, and FBO Service fees. These are usually factored in to the price but some locations may be more expensive depending on what their airport fees are.
Every business nowadays tacks on a fuel service charge. When paying your garbage bill, you have to pay a fuel service charge, if you get anything delivered outside a certain radius, bam, fuel service charge. SO it is not unexpected to see a charge like this show up on a private jet contract.
Do you want in-flight catering, hotel accommodations, luxury car, massage ect. Ect. All of these will be added on to the price of you Charter Jet. So don’t be surprised when you have beautiful women on board to serve you food and drink but then you will end up paying for it afterwards. Here are some typical Categorical costs/hr:
· Helicopters - 1000/hr up to 3000/hr
· Turbo Props - 1250/hr up to 2500
· Light Jets - 1950/hr up to 3450/hr
· Mid-Sized Jets - 3200/hr up to 4800/hr
· Heavy Jets - 4800/hr up to 9000/hr
· Airliners - 6500/hr up to 15000/hr

Private Jet Industry Outlook

The private jet industry demand collapse crisis has quickly followed the 2008 fuel price predicament. One would say that the global economy has not been very friendly to the charter jet industry over the last two to three years. Buoyed buy immense bonuses and an ever expanding economy it seemed that it was no longer a status symbol to drive a new car, buy the bigger house or even own a boat. Just about every Wall Street maverick was playing Maverick in real life with the purchase of a Private Jet.

However over the last three years, there has been a perfect storm brewing for the private jet industry. Fuel costs have skyrocketed; Leading up to 2008, fuel prices had raised drastically to over $100 a barrel, granted now fuel prices are back down in line with averages, it is hard to justify the price of chartering a private aircraft when you also have to pay for fuel. Just has airline fares have increased, charter jet prices have also increased.

The economy has tanked; People are saying gone are the days of Wall Street Bonuses. Now I don’t believe that but gone are the days of being able to justify the purchase of private plane or routinely chartering one. Because of this economy, many people realize now that everything doesn’t continue to increase – wages, bonuses, real estate and the stock market. It is not a guarantee that things always go up. Because of this reality check it is harder and harder to justify chartering a private jet.

Declining demand; Industry experts expect both business and leisure demand to continue to decline. After about a 1% decline in 2009, 2010 and 2011 do not look to much better. Many people are opting to travel by different modes of transportation, and increasingly take shorter distance trips.

Overall the industry outlook does not look promising for the private jet industry. However if companies can stay afloat during this tough time, I think they will ultimately come out ahead. The companies that manage to survive will be able to purchase private jets at a fraction of the previous cost thus creating more net income from their sales. Also with a major restructuring of the industry, the companies that come out alive will be the ones that take off (sorry about the pun) when the economy turns around. So You Want To Charter a Private Jet

There are many companies out there to look into when looking at a private jet. Bluestar jets, netjets, onesky, executivejetco; these are all good private jet companies too look into. But first ask yourself what do you want/what are you looking for when you hire a private jet? Lets do a simple Pro’s/Con’s List:

Pro’s:
-Bypass security and waiting in lines
-Be able to leave and arrive on your schedule, not 250 other peoples
-You get to look like a Boss!
-Less likely to get blown up
Let us look at each of these “Pro’s” individually. Bypassing the security lines is a pretty sweet deal with all of the check points and searches and what not. You will not only save time but also headache and the stress of possibly missing your flight. There are some companies out there right now that are working on an “easy pass” for airline security. Essentially you have to register with passports, retinal and finger print scans and then you are on their list. This enables you to use a separate line in which you will still go through a metal detector but you will be on the Fast Track. Personally I think you would look much cooler walking through the airport and getting your eyes scanned. That’s like FBI/Secret agent stuff. (The ladies like that)

You get to leave more or less on your schedule. No waiting on line, no waiting for the best price; you just call up your private jet captain and tell him to saddle up!

I think this is one of the main selling points. You feel like a CEO, granted you probably have to be a CEO to get a private jet, but you call the shots. Tell the pilot when to take off, where to land ect. It is a complete power trip.

To an extent, it is probably safer. You most likely know everyone on the plane and are less likely to let a terrorist on. On the other hand – see one of the Con comments.

Con’s:
-Cost
-You look like a smug a**hole
-There are probably a lot more private jet crashes then commercial airliners

The downsides are that in this economy, who can afford a private jet. Back in the early 2000’s, everyone was buying their own airplane with the immense Wall Street Bonuses.
Nowadays many people are screaming to the high heavens that companies shouldn’t use private jets. I am not sure what hiring a private jet runs so if anyone knows please leave it in the comments.

You would kind of look like a dick but so does everyone that has something that everyone else wants… if you enjoy then it doesn’t matter what other people think.

Without doing any kind of research and with no statistical data to back up this assumption I am going to go out on a limb and say there have been more plane crashes for private planes than commercial aircraft. I will do some research on that for a latter post, but that is what I believe.

Okay so there are some good reasons to charter a private jet, but are the costs worth it. Check out some of the advertisements and leave a comment to show what you think.
